Our MissionOur Mission is to minister to the needs of the elderly, children, handicapped, abused, homeless, and to assistant in drug programs throughout the Union County. The CommunityLast year a large part of Sister & Brothers Outreach Ministries was devoted to Rahway and Elizabeth, New Jersey. Due to a greater need to interact and educate the people in Elizabeth, more time has been devoted in 2001 to the Elizabeth community. Time has been dedicated to children, teaching them about God, educating them as to the pitfalls of drugs, drug addictions, sex, teenage pregnancy, diseases, and other adolescent issues. Ongoing interaction with single parents continues to include Bible studies and counseling, helping many cope with their family structure and the needs of their children. Improved self-esteem and encouragement allows avenues of new opportunities to be explored. The much needed time is taken to listen to the senior citizens of the community. We pray for, feed and direct the Elder according to their needs, but most of all we are advocates of hope through God. There is a cry for help in this community. Our goal is to answer this great commission. This requires a lot of work, time and funds. All Are WelcomeWe do not discriminate, but welcome and encourage all, regardless of their age, race, creed, color, or handicaps to come to our services. Faith is built through prayer and counseling as we reach out to those that are striving to stay drug free. Bibles, food, clothing and love are given in times of need. ProgramsSisters & Brothers Outreach Ministries serves free meals with several programs. We also have prayer services and minister the Gospel! An effort is being made to make a difference through our love, commitment, teachings and testimonies! Discussions and interactions are made with the youth concerning drugs and the drug environment. Every year in August, Sisters & Brothers Outreach Ministries sponsors a Christian Retreat held at Blue Mountain Christian Retreat in Ringgold, Pennsylvania. Children and adults that have given their life to the Lord and are trying to live clean and Godly lives are united. Sisters & Brothers Outreach Ministries provides transportation, lodging, food and recreation at no charge. Activities at this 5-day Retreat consist of crafts, workshops, swimming, volley ball, hiking, morning prayer and evening services. Minister Sheila Fall, Trustees, Board of Directors and other volunteers administer these activities. In December 2001, we began providing baskets of food and serving hot meals to those in need within the community. Gifts of toys, gloves, scarves and hats are given to the children. A great effort has been made showing the community that someone cares and is willing to help. In response a reduction in crime within the community, a change toward self-attitude, family and their community is being achieved. Encouragement is given to gain confidence and work towards a change. Sisters & Brothers Outreach Ministries provides the help and care to make a difference in lives. Special recognition is given to the Elderly allowing them not to be forsaken or forgotten. This truly is a mission in which we are called to by God.... to touch the lives of the young and old! On Saturdays we do educational workshops for the children. Many of the children have been classified and placed in Special Educational Classes at school and need our support. Recently five of the children tutored have been placed back in regular classes. The road to adulthood is difficult, therefore we are helping the young teens gain more self-confidence and to recognize peer pressure with positive role models. Every Saturday breakfast and lunch is provided for all the children along with activities in which participation keeps them off the streets. We impart to them that God does care and so do we! Donations and FundraisersDonations have granted short trips to Great Adventure, Rahway Park, barbecues, swimming and a Summer Camp Retreat for four days! An opportunity was given to fellowship with other children in sports activities! Through donations and fundraisers such an annual a Walk-A-Thon, Sisters & Brothers Outreach Ministries has made a positive impact on communities. Depression is very much real; especially when there is no money and no hope. Many who are desperate will turn to drugs, looking for comfort and happiness, but find no relief from their depression. Our prayer is that the people of these special communities are not abused, mistreated, or taken advantage of in any way, but given love, strength and faith through the guidance of God. Our Mission is to minister to the needs of the elderly, handicapped, abused, homeless and the children and to assistant in drug programs throughout Union County. Some of our challenges are going into environments where people are on a fixed income and have little hope of changing their destiny. Many of the children are without fathers. They have mothers who have left the burden of raising and providing for them to the grandmother and/or grandparents. We believe that knowing that someone cares and is willing to help will cut down crime in the community, change attitudes toward self, family and their community. We work very hard to encourage them so that they gain confidence and work towards a change. We want them to know there is help – we do care and will help them to make a difference in their lives. And to the elderly - they are not forsaken or forgotten - not everyone can afford to go into nursing homes! This truly is a mission in which we are called to by God to touch the lives of the young and old! © Sisters & Brothers
